The University of Waterloo History Society will be hosting Dr. David Marples from the University of Alberta for this year’s annual MacKinnon Dinner. After enjoying a delicious three course meal, Dr. Marples will be speaking to us on the topic of the Chernobyl disaster.

Fall Term Kick Off!

The History society invites you to our first event of the term: Fall Term Kick Off! The Purpose of this event is is to provide an opportunity for students, professors and other members of the department to meet one another outside of the classroom setting. Appetizers and refreshments (pop) are courtesy of the History Society. The Bombshelter menu will also be available for personal purchase for those interested.
Field Trip: Joseph Schneider Haus
Friday, February 27th from 1:00-3:00pm
Join the History Society for an off-campus trip to the Joseph Schneider Haus Historic Site. We’ll be meeting on campus at 1:00pm and travelling there together by bus. Cost per person is $2.25, which will include a tour of the restored farmhouse (built by one of the area’s first pioneers) and exhibit galleries!

Hugh MacKinnon Dinner
Friday, March 6th at Golf’s Steak House (598 Lancaster Street West, Kitchener)
Join students and faculty for a formal dinner to commemorate the late Hugh MacKinnon, a Professor of Medieval History in the Department of History at the University of Waterloo.
The guest of honour is Dr. Ann Carmichael from Indiana University. Her keynote address, “The Persistence of Plague in Europe,” will relate to her interests in how people remember and represent their experiences surviving plagues and pestilences, along with the larger lessons that past epidemics provide for us in this century of great global and environmental change.
Tickets are $25 for students and $35 for faculty, and on sale until February 27th in HH 115. (cash only please)
